Why I go to Quaker Meeting

“We first went to Quaker meeting as a family because we wanted our children to have the opportunity to explore and experience spirituality without imposed doctrines or creeds.  From the warmth of the first welcome we received, the Meeting continues to be a place where I have a sense of true community and where I can find spiritual insights and challenges which affect my everyday life.”

Ann

“The silence of meeting can be profound. The mind becoming settled may allow the heart to open.  Sometimes there is insightful ministry which arises from shared silence or from another source. “

Dave

“Quakers offer me the only way I know to worship together with like minded people without having to abide by a common creed.  I feel that we will never all be quite of the same opinion at the same time and indeed we may shift our ideas and faith leadings throughout our lives.  With Quakers I am not constrained.  I can share my thoughts and receive thoughts from others on a friendly basis.  I feel equal, respected and not judged.  A very good place to be.   I come to Meeting to strengthen my own faith and uphold my friends in theirs. “

Barbara

“I had the ideas of Friends before I found them. Personal communion with God and shared worship with the simplest basis (silence) - no clerics, sermons, liturgy or creed. I thought I was alone in feeling this way and so delighted to be wrong.”

Nigel

“I was drawn to Quakers because Quakers offered me a non-doctrinal way of being a Christian that took seriously the teaching of Jesus.  I attend Meeting because I am at home in the silence of the Quaker Meeting for Worship.”
